Stay

Some of us Nelsons have a need to build. It’s our creative outlet. We are serious nesters. Ruby, our eldest, helped build “Fort Ferny” for her sister’s sixth birthday, then moved on to assistant carpenter while Johnny and her built a couple cabins for the farm apprentices. Build/Design was one of her focuses in college. Now living in her own home-built farmhouse/ market, she works as a carpenter in the off-season. My great Uncle Norm, an unlicensed, self-taught architect, who lived in a tiny camping trailer in the woods, loved to talk about design with me as a child. Designing is the fun part, he’d say. My brother prefers building in the trees ( the Treehouse Masters guy ) and I’m a ground-fort type human with a hobbit edge. Lately I’m into forts on wheels. I hope you come stay with us and get inspired to build a hidey-hole of your own. We all need one to escape to now and then.
